What is glamping? Well I am glad you asked! It is GLAMourous camPING! We were trying to plan our annual 4th of July camping trip (missed out on one last year because of the move) when our good freinds asked if we were interested in staying the week with them in their family cabin in Kyburz. Well how could we say no to that!! A week with friends in a cabin right on the American River . . . umm . . . sign me up! We loaded up and headed out Tuesday late afternoon after the men got off of work. I was so looking forward to just getting away from it all. Nothing like being surrounded by nature to just bring you back down to earth a little.
With no busy schedules our days were filled with eating, drinking, eating, swimming, eating, did I mention eating? Oh yes, and eating some more!! Between the stuff I brought and the GROCERY store Tiffany brought we had enough food to last us months! The joke of the trip was that we all hoped the apocolypse would happen because we would be well fed!
We brought up the fishing gear and it was so funny because the kids were more than happy to "fish" off the deck or the truck bed! Mind you they weren't "fishing" in any body of water so they were able to loose TONS of bobbins and catch a lot of pine cones! No matter . . . they all had a BLAST! There was a little swimming hole not too far from the cabin that we would walk to and it had a little beach for the kids to play in the sand. Of course since this is the river, it was full of tiny fish wich Faith took as a chalenge to catch . . . and catch some she did! While I was walking in the rocks I spotted a water snake (yikes!) and that was the end of swimming for the day! Aaron and Chad took the kids fishing a few times (in the actual river, not off the back of the truck!) and while nobody caught anything they all had fun trying.
On our last full day at the cabin we decided to drive up the road a bit to a hiking spot that we drive by ALL the time on our way Tahoe. Talk about a BEAUTIFUL hike! There were several different trails to choose from but with all the kids we had we stuck to the shortest hike. It was only 3/4 of a mile in and then back out and there were lots of picture opportunities! Talk about beautiful! We will DEFINATLEY be going back as the girls get older and hopefully hike to the top of the huge falls. So fun to get out and get exploring in this beautiful area. Lady bird loved it too. ;o)
After 5 days we had to start packing up for the trek back home. Well . . . I say trek but it was only about an hour drive . . . not bad at all! All good things must come to an end but at least we have all the wonderful memories!! Hopefully this will be the first of MANY trips with the McGowan family!
